Denver Boulder Founders Meetup

I asked Brian Tsuchiya, the founder of the Denver Boulder Founders Meetup, to send me some more information on the purpose of the group. The Bard Center is not officially affliliated with this group; however, I do think it has the potential to be a great resource for entrepreneurs in the community. From the one meeting I attended, it struck me as “speed dating” for entrepreneurs. I asked Brian for more information to share with our community.

Brian sent me the following (which I’ve edited a bit to embed links and remove his phone #):

There is a new meetup for people that want to create businesses and become entrepreneurs. All too often while we are networking we meet people that tell us they have an idea, they want to start a business or they have a passion other than the way they are making a living. Have you ever met these people, not that you are one?

The purpose of this group is to connect these people so they can stop talking and start doing. In order to facilitate this our format is designed so people can share their passion and who they are and then if anyone wants to hear more they can track you down at the networking session or contact you after the event.

The reality is great teams create great companies, ever hear this one? A venture firm would rather invest in an A team and B plan than an A plan and B team. Also, we are social creatures and finding someone that shares your passion and values is a great start to launching a business.

Our group is not industry or vertical specific, we want every aspiring entrepreneur to find us and maybe find their future co-founders and key teammates.

Startups are the core of the economy. This group is at the genesis of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, please spread the word. And join us at our next event.  Regardless of your primary skills or interest in entrepreneurship this group will help you get connected to other entrepreneurs.

You can reach me by email brian@StartupGuru.com or through the Founder Meetup home page.

At the meeting Brian was asked what his role in all of this was. Why did he create this Founders Meetup? He is personally looking for help with his own venture geared toward helping women entrepreneurs and women owned businesses. Obviously, as he is not a woman, he is looking for a female partner in his new venture that I think will be called Startup Guru. He said that his plan was to model TechStars (another great local organization supporting entrepreneurs) and provide expertise in return for a small bit of equity.

p.s. Brian, if I messed up any of the details please let me know and I will update.
